Overview
The Stiperstones Ride is a circular bridle route takes in some of the wildest, most atmospheric terrain in the Shropshire Hills, following tracks over the distinctive quartzite ridge of the Stiperstones and down into steep valleys once home to Wild Edric. Along the way you pass Bronze Age cairns, Iron Age forts, remnants of medieval houses and the skeletons of old mine workings. The route combines historic landscape, rugged scenery and a real sense of remoteness.

Places for horse & rider to rest

  • The Bog Visitor Centre Carpark – start/finish point with easy space to park and prep before/after your ride; facilities nearby.

  • Stiperstones Village outskirts – grass verges near the village edge provide obvious short-stop points.

  • Tankerville lanes – quieter road section with wide grass edges suitable for a regroup stop.

  • Eastridge Wood car park / forestry track junction – good natural pause point halfway round.

Notes (for riders)

  • This route crosses open moorland and exposed hilltracks — winds can be strong, and footing varies.

  • Some sections are steep or rough underfoot; experienced riders and sure-footed horses will find this more enjoyable.

  • The route is circular and well-waymarked with downloadable GPX available from the Shropshire’s Great Outdoors site should you want navigation support.
